A friend and I were sketching on a farm on Orcas Island when the farmer’s big black lab, ‘Pearl’, approached and deposited a tennis ball at my feet. I knew the routine and threw it. She retrieved it within seconds and insisted I throw it again and again and AGAIN! So I ended up sketching her in the brief moments available between tossing the ball, and here she is.
