Fishing
on King Island's winter ice was always a great and rewarding
women's sport. Babies were carried along to take in the brisk
air and young children played nearby on the ice. When a Tomcod
or Bullhead was caught (every few minutes), they would be laid
out to form a circle. When the circle was closed the woman would
pack up and go home
unless she wanted to fish some more,
then she'd simply make the circle bigger.
