A few years ago I got a letter from a friend in the small fishing village of Pelican. She wrote that she would be out of town for the summer and would I like to come and stay in her house to sketch and paint. Of course I took her up on her offer and this image is only one of many I sketched in Pelican.

This group of cannery workers are working on what is known as 'the slime line.' Employees in the slime line clean out the salmon before moving on to be washed and froze.
