This crabbing scene is done from my King Island sketch book when I was teaching there in 1951-52. The King Islanders would take a small piece of bait, and wrap a line around it, no hook necessary. The hungry King Crab, which come in to shallower water in the winter, (100'), grab the morsel. The woman would tug up the enormous crustacean and fold in the legs before the crab froze solid. This way they could fit more crab in theri walrus skin bags!

I say the woman would tug up the crab as only the women fished on King Island The men were in charge of the hunting.
