Rie Munoz celebrated Christmas with family in Juneau.
The following week she headed off to Morro Bay for three months. There she will get away from the ice and snow which,
although very pretty, makes for treacherous walking. In Morro Bay where her older brother Piet lives,
she will be able to take daily walks.
Mercedes Munoz is majoring in studio arts at the Montana State
University. She brought home lots of her ceramic projects and gave them to
family for Christmas presents. Rie gave Mercedes her old blue portfolio that she
used to carry her originals. It also contained 20 sheets of 300# arches paper
and an original painting as well. She also gave her ‘favorite granddaughter’ a
large collection of her brushes.

BEAR HANGS OUT FOR A DAY AT GALLERY
Last month before the snow started to fly we had a visit from a medium
sized black bear at the Rie Munoz Gallery. Attracted by the late run of salmon
up Jordan Creek, only 50’ from the gallery, this bruin had a nice lunch.
Afterwards he climbed a tree next to the gallery. He balanced himself on some
large tree limbs and lied down. The limbs are right outside the top window by my
desk and there he stayed. After an hour, around noon, he fell asleep. He slept
most the afternoon. I would show customers the sideshow but did not bother him
otherwise. We did not alert the authorities who might have felt obligated to do
something. You could see him from the main highway if you looked but he stayed
concealed from the general public until dusk when he climbed down and went on
his way. We haven’t seen him since and presume he is hibernating someplace cozy.
