PUYALLUP
FAIR FEATURED ARTIST
Rie Muñoz has been chosen by the Puyallup Fair committee to
be the featured artist this year! The 17-day event starts Friday,
September 5. Rie will be present at the art pavilion September 5,
6 and 7 for two and one half hours in the morning and two and one
half hours in the afternoon. Rie will have a couple dozen original
paintings and two or three tapestries on display and for sale. Muñoz
will also be signing books at that time. There will be a booth selling
Muñoz lithos, silk-screens, and posters in another area of
the fair.
See you at the Puyallup!
Mercedes Muñoz,
Rie's granddaughter, celebrated her 11th birthday a couple of weeks
ago. Mercedes wanted one of two things for her birthday-a laptop computer
($1600), or a hamster ($16). The local pet store had a few hamsters
but couldn't guarantee they wouldn't be sold out by the time her birthday
rolled around. I decided to purchase one in advance and hide it at
the Rie Muñoz Gallery until the big day. Well, the little critter
escaped his temporary pen that night, and I spent the following three
days rigging up various cages and traps to lure him back.
I was getting worried that the hamster would become a permanent resident
in the gallery, living off lithos and employee lunches. I finally
re-captured the hamster the day of the birthday party. Mercedes was
thrilled and has named him, 'Houdini.'
