FRYE
ATTENDANCE TRIPLES DURING MUNOZ EXHIBIT
We were
told that the Frye Art Museum had triple the normal attendance
during the Rie Munoz original watercolor exhibition November
5, 1999 through January 9, 2000! The Frye Museum bookstore
also reported double the normal sales for that time of year.
Crowds packed the museum even during weekdays, normally a
slow time.

MUNOZ TALKS ABOUT HER ART
An art teacher from Lambert, Montana is working on a report with
her Jr. High School class about their favorite artist, Rie Munoz.
After researching Rie through books, magazines and the web, they
e-mailed Munoz and asked her if she was influenced by any artists,
who and why. The following is Ries response that we thought
youd find interesting:
|
|
"An artist is
influenced by everything he/she sees through-out life."
But as for being influenced
by other artists - Yes, many: Dufy for his lightheartedness
and airy scenes. Chagall who made me realize that anything
is possible and acceptable; fish, lovers goats flying happily
through the sky, a face or person can be any color - red,
green, blue, etc.

A person can have 6 fingers. From Walt
Disney's Mickey Mouse I realized that 4 fingers is okay too. I'm
influenced by the early sculptures of the Canadian Eskimos for
their pure and simple lines. I'm influenced by Alaskan Eskimo
Kiviktoruk for his story-telling skills in his paintings. I'm
influenced by medieval church art and unicorn tapestries. Finally,
I am also influenced by Rufino Tamayo, Ben Shahn, Diego Rivera,
Auguste Rodin, Ludwig Bemelmans, Kathe Kollwitz, Picasso, Matisse
and Rockwell Kent.
Cheers,
Rie Munoz
