On June 11 Rie Munoz made an artist appearance
at Seaport Gallery in Petersburg, Alaska. This small community
of 3,000 is about 300 miles south from Juneau on Mitkof
Island. Show posters appeared all over town. Additional
promotion included a newspaper article and radio interview.
Seaport Gallery owner Fran Jones had the event catered.
One of the many attendees was the skipper of the boat
Middleton, a subject of one of Rie's well-known images.
Munoz took advantage of the harbor setting
and sketched the active Petersburg waterfront. Petersburg
has a large working commercial fishing fleet, and has
been the subject of several paintings. It was hard for
mom to get much sketching done, as everyone in Petersburg
knew that Rie Muoz was coming to town. It didnt help that
she wore a long flamboyant red coat, which waved like
a flag on the docks.
Rie signed books, posters and prints throughout
the evening. She ended the night by signing the bar stool
she borrowed from the local tavern. Im sure that seat
will be reserved for only the best customers!

Quilting
Cruise Group Visits Gallery
On June 30, twenty-five
people from the Quilt for a Cure cruise visited the Rie Munoz Gallery.
The cruise aboard the MS Amsterdam was organized to help fund the
search for the cure of breast cancer. Among the attendees were long
time friends and enthusiastic supporters Claradell and Harry Shedd.
They presented Rie with a quilt they had all made and our gallery
gave personalized gift baskets. We showed the Shedds around Juneau
pointing out the scenes that have inspired Rie. Claradell and Harry
enjoyed a crab feed at Ries studio, driving up to the Mendenhall Glacier
and a spin around the Auke Bay harbor on our 24' Olympic boat. Well,
they enjoyed two out of three of the before mentioned activities..
