BEAR
UPDATE
Our last update
gave detailed accounts of the local bears exploring around Starr Hill.
Were bringing you this update since a black bear walked into Ries
house the other day, through the front door and into her alcove. It
was a nice summer afternoon, and Rie had the doors open. A yummy melon
was keeping cool in the alcove and this proved to be too great a temptation
for the visiting black bear.
Her granddaughter,
Mercedes, happened to be over visiting when the phone rang. Mercedes
ran to answer the phone, which is next to the front door and just about
ran into the bear chomping away at Ries honeydew melon. Mercedes let
out a scream as did the bear and they both ran their separate directions.
(The phone call was from a neighbor calling Rie to let her know a bear
had just walked in her house.)
Fortunately for
all concerned, the bruin did not go into the house any farther, since
it could have been confused as to how to get out of the house. This
would have resulted in the bear rampaging the house trying to find an
exit. These black bears are much less threatening than the unpredictable
brown bear, but still a force to be reckoned with.
RIE
IN TENAKEE
FOR HER BIRTHDAY

Rie Munoz went
to Tenakee with friend and fellow artist Jen Harmon for her Birthday.
Rie likes to go with Jen, because she is very disiplined about painting
every day--which they both like to do. They also fit in baths, coffee
and gossip at the Tenakee Cafe, dog walks and eating crab. Shown here
is Rie; Muncie examining the Dungeness Crab we had just pulled up.
