November 2005 MUNOZ NEWS
Bear in Town
AUGUST RELEASE SURPRISE
Bear in Town! SOLD OUT! This large lithograph sold out shortly after it was released. We expected this piece to be popular but were surprised at how quickly it sold out. The other two lithographs, "Snow Geese" and "Cleaning a Halibut" are still available.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIE!
HAPPY 84TH BIRTHDAY to our favorite artist! Munoz celebrated her birthday with family and a big shrimp feed. Rie is feeling super great and is painting and sketching away.
2005 PUYALLUP FAIR
The Rie Munoz original watercolor exhibition at the 2005 Puyallup Fair went great. Munoz sold 25 of 45 paintings on opening day. Rie signed hundreds of copies of her new book, "Alaska Through the Eyes of an Artist" as well as her childrens books "Andy" and "King Island Christmas". Rie had a good time seeing old friends, art dealers, collectors as well as meeting many new enthusiastic collectors for the first time. There were many third generation Rie Munoz collectors present. Before the Puyallup Fair Rie Munoz made two gallery appearances, at Bends Frame Design and Sunbird Gallery on their first Friday gallery walk, as well as Labor Day weekend at Cannon Beachs Haystack Gallery. Large crowds were the norm. It was fun to be in America again. RIE MUNOZ BOOKS AVAILABLE We have most of Ries books available for ordering now, except the book, "Rie Munoz at the Frye Art Museum" which will be re-printed at a later date. "Runaway Mittens" can be ordered through Todd Communications at 1-907-274-8633. ANDY $9.95 KING ISLAND CHRISTMAS $9.95 RIE MUNOZ ARTIST IN ALASKA $16.95 RIE MUNOZ PORTRAIT OF ALASKA $85.00 ALASKA THROUGH THE EYES OF AN ARTIST-RIE MUNOZ (NEW) $24.95 ALASKA COIN COMMISSION Rie Munoz and fellow Juneauite Mark Vinsel have been appointed by governor Frank Murkowski to head the commission to design and choose the Alaskan image that will appear on the quarter of the "50-State Commemorative Coin Program." Munoz and others on the committee will help design and choose an image that will appear on the "tail" side of the quarter that will go into circulation in 2008. Of course we would a love to see a Rie Munoz quarter in circulation say with an image of the Embrace or Polar Bear and Fox but its not going to happen this way. The committee must focus on an Alaskan subject, then write their concept in a narrative description. This narrative is then forwarded to the artists back at the US Mint and they will draw it out, thank you very much. DEBBIE MUMM QUILT CRUISE VISITS GALLERY Last week a group of 45 quilters from Washington made a special trip to the Rie Munoz Gallery. Among the group of enthusiastic collectors was renowned quilter Debbie Mumm. A quilting cruise was set up to help raise funds for cancer research.
