It's good news that the campaign season has ended and I hope that your favorite candidate has won.
It's no exception in the Munoz family. Cathy Munoz, Rie's daughter in law, is one of Juneau's two representatives
in the State House, and still is. This year Cathy faced her first challenger in 6 years and she had to get the dust
off of the 'campaign machine.'
Rie really enjoyed being in the middle of the campaign intrigue and would ask me daily, "Is anything new going on in the political front?"
There usually was something juicy to report. As you can imagine, Rie stumping for Cathy didn't hurt.
Rie is 'doing her thing' in Juneau as the fall weather sets in. She stays downtown at her condo most days and spends the
night 'out the road' at her cabin at Lena. We go to art shows and she enjoys the outing. Rie helps me get Matthew to school everyday
and there's always a laugh or two to go around. Life is good.
DALE DeARMOND SHOW
Rie Munoz Ltd. has the largest and most complete collection of artwork of Alaskan artist legend, Dale DeArmond. DeArmond
is a wood block artist who produced an extensive body of work. Her art focuses on legends and dramatic Alaskan scenes,
all carved in end grain maple blocks. The detail is remarkable. After she carved a block, DeArmond would ink it and run
it through an Etan Press to 'pull' her wood engraving prints.
We matched 20 or more of her blocks with the wood engraving prints and framed them together. The result is a stunning display.
A close friend of Rie's, Dale DeArmond's joined Rie on art trips to Europe where they would get their work published in to stone
lithographs. Another fellow artist and friend Diana Tillion, who painted with octopus ink, would accompany them as well.

November 14 we will be having a show of DeArmond's work at Rie's gallery in Juneau.
MERCEDES BACK IN JUNEAU
Rie's granddaughter, Mercedes Munoz, has settled in nicely back to her home town of Juneau. She is living in her grandma's
house up on Starr Hill with her boyfriend Bill Sarandria and two dogs, Oliver and Winston. Mercedes has a job at a local art studio
called The Canvas. Life is good!
OFF TO CHILE
Cathy, Matthew and I will be going off to Chile from November 17- December 12. We will be visiting family
and relaxing after the rigorous campaign.
The Rie Munoz Gallery put an ad this last summer for the annual Golden North Salmon Derby. This image was an
old newspaper cartoon Munoz did when she was working at the Juneau Daily Empire.
