A floxk of sandhill cranes began their fall migration when they spied a beautiful Eskimo maiden below. "We cannot leave such a pretty thing behind! We must take her with us!" the birds cackled to one another, and glided back to Earth. Then they spiraled upward once more, flying so swiftly and close together they they lifted the young Eskimo with them into the sky. The villagers watched in dismay as she disappeared, never to be seen again in her village.
