The women of King Island, where I taught school in 1952, danced in a seated position making gracegul motions with their torsos and hands. The men danced standing up. Both women and men wore gloves - usually ordinary white cotton work gloves - while they danced, to "feel their hands better" and make the motions more pronounced.
